Game overview
Dead by Daylight is a tense, asymmetrical horror title where one player becomes the stalker-like Killer while up to four others play Survivors trying to escape. Matches center on cat-and-mouse gameplay: the Killer hunts and disables Survivors, and those Survivors must work together to get out alive.
Roles and match objective
- The Killer’s aim is to incapacitate Survivors, hang them on sacrificial Hooks, and deliver them to the Entity.
- Survivors must repair a set number of generators to power the exit gates, then open a gate and flee before time runs out. Each playable character has a name and three distinct Perks that define their strengths and playstyle. Players pick their character before the round begins, and the match starts once selections are complete.
Tools Survivors can use
Survivors lack offensive powers, so they rely on items and teamwork to survive. Useful gear can be found around the map and from chests. Key items include:
- Maps (help locate gates and objectives)
- Toolboxes (speed up or assist with generator repairs)
- Flashlights (distract or blind the Killer temporarily)
- Keys (can open special exits or chests)
- Chests (contain random supplies like med-kits or other helpful items)
Maps and toolboxes are particularly valuable for opening exits and finishing generators, while chests sometimes yield med-kits that boost your chances of staying alive.
Killer mechanics and hazards
All Killers have unique powers and a shared ability to read auras, making generators, Hooks, and certain totems visible to them in specific situations. This aura-reading places Survivors at a tactical disadvantage, as their objectives can be tracked even when hidden. The Killer’s primary method of elimination is capturing Survivors and placing them on Hooks for sacrifice.
Another major danger is the Endgame Collapse: once an exit gate is opened, a countdown begins (typically two minutes) during which all remaining Survivors must escape or be eliminated.
Game flow and social play
Dead by Daylight emphasizes cooperation and straightforward matches—there are no cutscenes or sidequests, so players can focus entirely on the core objective. This simplicity, combined with the need for coordination, makes it well suited to groups who enjoy tense, team-based survival matches.
Latest chapter: Sadako Rising (Ringu-inspired)
The Sadako Rising chapter brings a new, stealthy Threat: The Onryō (Sadako Yamamura), who uses televisions to teleport and ambush Survivors. The update also introduces a new Survivor, Yoichi Asakawa, whose perks are tailored to support teammates and evade killers.
Limited-time events tied to the chapter offer exclusive cosmetics and rewards—examples include a themed portrait and frame, a Sadako crossover torso, and additional in-game items. These events provide fresh content and reasons to revisit the mobile version of the game.
