Getting started and workflow

You can populate pages quickly by dragging images onto the canvas and arranging them in sequence. Adding speech balloons is straightforward — drop a bubble where you want it and type your dialogue. A properties pane on the right gives you control over appearance, so you can tweak fonts, shapes, and other visual attributes to suit your vision.

Styling and effects

The program includes a wide selection of lettering treatments and panel shapes inspired by classic cartoon and comic aesthetics. There are also photographic filters you can apply to give a dramatic look to your shots — for example, a high-contrast “Sin City” style. Everything is adjustable through the style controls, letting you personalize the final result.

Templates and quick-start options

If you prefer to move fast, choose from numerous ready-made layouts and themes to jumpstart your project. Importing images is painless: drag them from your desktop or select them from the app’s preview pane. You can even capture photos directly using a webcam or DV camera and drop them straight into your strip.

One minor drawback is that Comic Life can be a bit memory-hungry at times. Otherwise it’s intuitive, feature-packed, and excellent for turning photos into polished comic pages.
