Ariadna — find a defibrillator fast
Cardiac arrest survival falls sharply with every passing minute without treatment — roughly a 10% drop in survival odds for each minute that passes. Ariadna is a mobile tool designed to shorten that response time by helping people locate the nearest automated external defibrillator (AED) as quickly as possible.
What the app enables
- Confirm and approve AED locations other people have added, keeping the database accurate.
- Upload photographs and practical details about where an AED sits so others can spot it faster.
- Report new AEDs by dropping a geotagged pin for devices found in public or private spaces.
Community participation and incentives
Anyone can assist — not just certified CPR volunteers. Contributors earn recognition within the app: symbolic badges for verifying or registering devices, and a personal collection of the AEDs they’ve added or confirmed appears on their profile. This game-like approach rewards active users and encourages ongoing participation.
Who built it and why it exists
Ariadna was created through a collaboration between the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) and the Red Cross. It’s part of the SEC-Calidad initiative, which focuses on improving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease and promoting better cardiovascular health across the population.
