Premise and setting
Active Matter is a Windows action title that drops you into a repeating-time scenario where every run matters. You play as an operative sent into quantum-unstable zones rich with a dangerous, energy-like substance called active matter. The unstable physics and repeating timeline mechanics make each excursion tense and unpredictable.
Core objectives
- Reach an extraction point before the unstable zone collapses to complete a successful run.
- Scavenge valuable equipment and resources scattered through each area to improve future missions.
- Secure as much active matter as you can carry—the resource is powerful but hazardous.
Gameplay loop and mechanics
Choose your equipment loadout carefully before deployment; weaponry, tools, and special gear determine how you interact with the zone’s shifting laws of physics. Encounters combine fast-paced firefights with environmental hazards, and the time-loop structure rewards learning and adaptation: information gained on one loop helps in the next.
Opponents and threats
Both AI-controlled foes and other players compete for the same prizes, leading to tense PvP skirmishes in addition to PvE confrontations. Exposure to active matter can cause severe psychological effects in some operatives, producing erratic and dangerous behavior that complicates every mission.
Progression and base-building
Between missions you can expand a syndicate hub, upgrade weapons and equipment, and tailor your operative’s specialties. Investing in your base and arsenal increases your survivability and bargaining power in fights over high-value resources.
