Then it must be a bug in the different player I am using?: • QuickTime Player 10.4 • QuickTime Player 7.6.6 • iTunes 12.6.2 all with for Mac OS X (now macOS) El Capitán 10.11.6. Interestingly, the hiccups sound different in iTunes than how they sound in both QuickTimes. Maybe it has to do with the fact that both source AIFF and output MP3 are 32KHz? Attached is the MP3, encoded with LAME 64bits version 3.99.5 installed via Homebrew (https://brew.sh).
