No

when i start areca i get the message:

This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

i get this error twice then the areca front end loads as normal

I found the MSVCR71.DLL (MS C runtime 7.1) and copied it into the c:\program files\areca directory and this has sorted the problem

my system:

areca 6.07 have also tried 6.1 with the same effect
Vista Business with SP1
.NET Runtime 3.5 sp1

    and java -version reveals:

    java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode, sharing)

    Hi,

I exeprienced the same issue when installing Areca Backup 7.0.6 on Windows Vista Enterprise x64 with SP1. I thought this was related to x64 (I haven't seen the issue on x86), but looks like it's not related. Same workaround here.

areca shows 'missing msvcr71.dll' but opens anyway (vista 32, sp2). i dont have msvcr71.dll on the system (msvcr,msvcr20,40,80,90 are present). do these 80,90 files supersede msvcr71.dll?

Thank you for the quick workaround.
Have seen the same bug after installing Areca 7.1.7 under Windows XP SP3

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

    java version "1.6.0_21"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 17.0-b17, mixed mode, sharing)

msvcr71.dll is part of the java runtime
its found in the jre/bin folder
i fixed the startup errors by adding that folder to the PATH variable

This issue still occurs on a clean Windows 7 SP1 (x86) installation.

Executing "sfc /scannow" does not fix it (as Microsoft's own documents suggest), nor does a reboot.

As others have stated, adding adding the "jre/bin" path, e.g., "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin", to the system PATH environment variable solves the problem.

Is it possible for Areca to add this path to the PATH upon installation or launch? Or, at a minimum, to instruct the user as to the solution?
