Areca-Backup is a file backup software that supports incremental, image and delta backup on local drives or FTP servers. Areca-Backup also allows you to browse your backups and navigate among different version of the files contained in your archives.

I think this is perfect for a "typical" user - not your enterprise-level IT admin. But that doesn't mean it's without features. It's got everything you need for doing backups, and then some. It's quick and painless to set up. Has command-line capability for use with OS scheduler (very nice), as well as a wizard for setting up the actual command line parameters. Tutorial and user guide are straightforward. You can back up to NTFS / FAT. If it could somehow detect duplicates across multiple targets, this would be my dream backup program :)

This wonderful piece of project is pretty well to back up daily work without fail. Also it allows encryption as well as snapshot (Exact Directory structure) to be taken as back up. Encryption feature is one of my favorite feature offered! I love this product! I highly recommend it to ones who are concerned to backup their day to day work.

So far the best open source free BackUp utility out there. It offers all that can be found in a commercial product. It also provides the user with lots of ways how to configure the tool and create image archives for example, that are updated by every backup and you don't need to remove/recreate them.

Nice to have a backup option that allows for advanced features and security that is very customizable when needed.

Nice for simple workstation backups, but too many missing features for professional use: VSS on Windows, 64-Bit-OS support out of the box, Windows ACL support for example.
