On recent GNU/Linux distros using GTK 2.14, KompoZer crashes whenever the user selects a sub-menu with the mouse.
Everything is OK when accessing sub-menus with the keyboard. This might be a workaround for the very short term.
I'm rebuilding KompoZer on a newer Gecko core. This will solve the problem.
My first builds work fine (much more stable than KompoZer 0.7.10 on GTK 2.12), I'll put the new code on the SVN as soon as possible.
However, there are quite a lot of features that have to be re-implemented.
This bug is #1 on my list. I'm working on it.
If anybody can take the time see what has changed between Gecko 1.7 and 1.8 in the menu/popup widgets to submit a patch for recent Linux distros, that would be very appreciated.

any news?
I have the same problem and there seem to be many others but there must be a million users of Kompozer without problems using it! What actions have you taken to get around this bug?
I also wonder about the first comment here "View->Hide OOOPPPSSS", was that a joke?
You can follow the recent developments here: http://kazhack.org/?tag/editor
Note that there’s a link on KompoZer’s home page that links to my weblog…

On Linux with GTK 2.14, if you display a submenu like “View > Show/Hide” or “File > Recent Files…”, KompoZer 0.7.10 crashes.
Sorry, I forgot to login before sending the last message.

Thanks for the link, I'll follow it.

I just loaded Kompozer on Ubuntu 8.10 and it crashes. I tried to insert a picture using the Image icon. When I selected a file from the list, it crashes. The same thing happens when choosing the menu command.
I am a light weight in the Linux world so I hope this helps.
Ubuntu 8.10 relies on GTK 2.14, and KompoZer 0.7 does NOT work on Ubuntu 8.10. Use KompoZer 0.8 instead: http://kazhack.org/?tag/editor
Bug closed and marked as fixed.
KompoZer 0.8 is not finished yet, but this bug is already solved in the alpha versions.
