The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative free and open source MMORPG. TMW uses 2D graphics and aims to create a large and diverse interactive world.
Been playing The Mana World (TMW) for several months, I find the depth of development to be well thought out. For example: the monsters seem to have a sliding value, based according to your players stats (impossible to kill when you are lower levels, getting easier to kill as you grow, but eventually their point values become useless as you reach your 50's). That's the best I can offer there!. Next, other players are quite friendly (many magicians will stop and heal you if you are in a battle and are losing health), players can trade and chat amongst themselves, they can form hunting parties, and more. Next to consider would be the jobs you can perform for non-playing characters.... so much to do, and some items are so very hard to get!
I have been playing this for several months as well. I wanted an open-source, alternative for my son so we wouldn't have to pay fees like you do with Runescape and other similar games and so we could support the open-source community. It is said this game is still in "pre-alpha" status - not even in beta yet! So far, it is very well thought out and full featured. I play it along with my 13 yr old son and 10 yr old daughter as something to do together. The community of people are very nice and supportive of new players. There is a TON of things you can do. They even hold special events for the different holidays (ie. Xmas, Easter, etc) where players have the opportunity to participate in special holiday quests to earn special "limited edition" items. I heartily recommend this very fun project to everyone of all ages!
THis project is awesome! Really easy to setup your own world.
