    Pandoc

    Pandoc

    The universal markup converter

Pandoc is a universal document converter able to convert files from a multitude of markup formats into another. With Pandoc, you have a swiss-army knife of a converter, able to convert practically any markup format into any other. Pandoc contains a Haskell library for conversions as well as a command-line tool that uses this library. It can convert to and from just about anything-- lightweight markup formats, HTML formats, documentation formats, ebooks, TeX formats, word processor formats and so much more. It understands several useful markdown syntax extensions, such as document metadata, footnotes, tables, and more. If you want strict markdown compatibility however, these extensions can be turned off. Pandoc is no doubt powerful and customizable, but it is important to note that its intermediate representation of a document is less expressive than many of the formats, so it may not produce perfect conversions every time.

    Beamer

    Beamer

A LaTeX class for producing presentations and slides

The beamer class is focused on producing (on-screen) presentations, along with support material such as handouts and speaker notes. Content is created in a frame environment, each of which can be divided up into a number of slides (actual output pages). A simple 'action' notation is used to specify which material appears on each slide within a frame. The class supports a range of environments to enable complex slide relationships to be constructed. The appearance of slides is controlled by a template system. Many of the elements of slides can be adjusted by setting simple key-based values in the preamble. More complex changes can be implemented by altering specific, targeted definitions without needing to rewrite entire blocks of code. This allows a variety of visual appearances to be selected for the same content source.

    TeXShop

    TeXShop

TeX previewer for Mac OS X

TeXShop is a TeX previewer for Mac OS X, written in Cocoa. Since pdf is a native file format on OS X, TeXShop uses "pdftex" and "pdflatex" rather than "tex" and "latex" to typeset in its default configuration; these programs in the standard TeX Live distribution of TeX produce pdf output instead of dvi output. TeXShop uses TeX Live, a standard distribution of Tex programs maintained by the TeX Users Group (TUG) for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, and various other Unix machines. The distribution includes tex, latex, dvips, tex fonts, cyrillic fonts, and virtually all other programs and supporting files commonly used in the TeX world. The most recent version of this distribution is maintained for the Mac by the MacTeX TeXnical Working Group of the TeX Users Group and available under the "Obtaining" tab.

    Better BibTeX for Zotero

    Better BibTeX for Zotero

Make Zotero effective for us LaTeX holdouts

Better BibTeX (BBT) is a plugin for Zotero and Juris-M that makes it easier to manage bibliographic data, especially for people authoring documents using text-based toolchains (e.g. based on LaTeX / Markdown). Zotero does all its work in UTF-8 Unicode, which is absolutely the right thing to do. Unfortunately, for those shackled to BibTeX and who cannot (yet) move to BibLaTeX, unicode is a major PITA. Also, Zotero supports some simple HTML markup in your items that Bib(La)TeX won’t understand.

    TinyTeX releases

    TinyTeX releases

Windows/macOS/Linux binaries and installation methods of TinyTeX

A lightweight, cross-platform, portable, and easy-to-maintain LaTeX distribution based on TeX Live. TinyTeX is a custom LaTeX distribution based on TeX Live that is small in size but functions well in most cases, especially for R users. If you run into the problem of missing LaTeX packages, it should be super clear to you what you need to do (in fact, R users won’t need to do anything). You only install LaTeX packages you actually need. Currently, TinyTeX works best for R users. Other users can use it, too, it is just that missing LaTeX packages won’t be automatically installed, and you need to install them manually. Or you can go to the extreme to install all packages (see FAQ 3 for how), but remember there are thousands of them. Installing or running TinyTeX does not require admin privileges, which means you no longer need sudo or your IT. You can even run TinyTeX from a Flash drive.

    circuitikz

    circuitikz

CircuiTikZ TeX/LaTeX package for drawing circuits

This package provides a set of macros on top of TikZ for naturally typesetting electrical and electronic networks. It was born mainly for writing Massimo Redaelli's exercise book and exam sheets for the Elettrotecnica courses at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He wanted a tool that was easy to use, with a lean syntax, native to LaTeX, and supporting direct PDF output format. circuitikz is included with the most common LaTeX systems, so it should work out of the box. Anyway, the main dependency is on TikZ/PGF, xstring and siunitx.

    Excel2LaTeX

    Excel2LaTeX

The Excel add-in for creating LaTeX tables

Making tables in LaTeX can be tedious, especially if some columns are calculated. This converter allows you to write a table in Excel instead, and export the current selection as LaTeX markup which can be pasted into an existing LaTeX document, or exported to a file and included via the \input command. Known to be compatible with Windows Excel 2000–2016 (32-bit and 64-bit) and Mac Excel 2004, 2011, and 2016. May also be compatible with other versions that support .xla add-ins. Does not work on LibreOffice Calc.

    neutriNote

    neutriNote

The original extensible Markdown + Math note app

Let's say plain text is the most basic unit of written information. Then the boundaries between written thoughts in formatted / unformatted text, math (LaTeX), rich markdown, ASCII drawings, and so on, are artificially imposed. neutriNote reclaims the paradigm by preserving all contents in a text-centric searchable repository. Unlike the emphasis on traditional text editing functions found in most mainline writing apps, neutriNote focuses instead on the long-term searchability of information so that cognitive load may be reduced through note-taking, with a writing experience totally open to customization.
