  • Successfully tested released Sopwith.NET-Alpha with Mono

Today I wanted to try out the MS.NET compiled exe under Linux. I was mildly surprised that it worked. But what surprised me greatly was that it nearly worked out of the box! Kudos to the SDL.NET team plus the Mono guys! I am rarely seeing nearly no problems at all getting something to work under linux that is mainly designed for windows. So if you want to run Sopwith.NET under Linux natively (no WINE), here a guide how to get it to work. Of course you can compile the stuff via Monom but if you dont want to compile the game yourself you can use the released Alpha! Here a quick guide of how to use the released Alpha under Linux: * Install SDL.NET for Linux: http://cs-sdl.sourceforge.net/index.php/The_absolute_newbies_guide_to_SDL.NET I used the version recommended for Debian Linux, which worked just fine for my Ubuntu 9.04. * In your SopwithDotNet installation folder rename the directory "data" to "Data". * Copy all files from your SDL.NET bin directory (in my case: ~/sdldotnet-6.1.0/bin) to your SopwithDotNet installation folder. * Start the Alpha with "mono sopcs.exe"! Now, after this test I officially call the game cross-platform :)

  • Currently working on: Collisions

i try to find out why targets do not trigger collisions ATM. for this i wrote some more debugging functionality. i also made a more proper "pause" mode, but i havent checked it in yet. why do i write this anyway? well, i guess in the hope to show people that something is going on in this project and that it can be taken serious....

  • Yes, the project is progressing....

maybe it seems like this is another dead project hosted on sourceforge, but actually over the holidays i did quite some work. collision detection prooved to be a hard task because of a read-unfriendlyness of the old code... it came out that the used 640*400 graphic of the game was even more hacked that i first had thought. it required much rewrite, but at least now the first nice collision detection is underway. finally planes can nicely crash on the ground... though this will then crash the game too cuz there is no code to handle that yet :) i hope to get some more things done the next weekends but i fear my company will send me to some customers which will occupy me quite much.... we will see

  • Busy at the moment

No updates recently. I know, and I would very much like to get some progress for the project done. Unfortunately we are are closing to the release of our product at work, which means I have very little time. But I would still take my time to help anybody liking to contribute to the project :)
