WIM files can be opened, but new content cannot be added and existing content cannot be deleted.
I think the introduction on web-site of www.7zip.org is not exact.
Supported formats:
Packing / unpacking: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM
Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.
It seems 7ZIP cannot pack WIM.
7-Zip can pack to WIM, but it can't update WIM files.
