    Igor Pavlov - 2011-03-01

    7-Zip 9.20.06 alpha was released.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:

    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z920.06.exe
    or
    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z920.06.msi

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:

    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z920.06-x64.msi

    What's new:

    - 7-Zip now can unpack UEFI BIOS files.
    - 64-bit version of 7-Zip now includes additional 32-bit shell extension DLL.
      So other 32-bit programs can call 64-bit 7-Zip via context menu.
    - Now it's possible to associate 7-Zip with file types without Administrator rights.
    - New -mf=FilterID switch to specify compression filter. Examples:
        7z a -mf=bcj2 a.7z a.tar
        7z a -mf=delta:4 a.7z a.wav
        7z a -mf=bcj a.tar.xz a.tar
    - There are some changes in LZMA settings for BCJ2 filter.
      So compression ratio now is slightly improved for executable files in -mx9 mode for .7z format.
    - Some bugs were fixed.
    - New localizations: Corsican, Kyrgyz.

    This alpha version fixes the bug:
       7-Zip File Manager could crash in context menu: System -> Properties.
    Also there are some internal changes in source code that works with file names and files. So if you see some new bugs, please write here.

    Also there is new benchmark command:

    7z b -mm=*

    it tests LZMA / Deflate / BZip2 / PPMd.
    Test data is artificial (too many randoms in stream). So real speed is slightly different. Also the benchmark uses all available CPU threads. Real code in 7-Zip can use multithreading only in some cases.
    The MIPS result values are normalized for AMD K8 CPU in -mmt1 mode with x64 version.

    Hello everyone,

    sorry, but that's not true (at least the way you stated above). For me double-clicking on a jpg-files inside zip and 7z archives brings up my default viewer XNView and the picture is shown flawlessly. After closing XNView the temporary folder and file are deleted as expected on my Win 7 Starter PC.
    What still persists is the "Wrong parameter" when trying to compress to a deflate64-zip archive. But there was no notice that this bug has been attempted to be fixed. It's most probably on the to-do-list, so we will wait and see.

    Best regards!

    About deflate64 bug.
    I read SF forum messages mostly via e-mail notifications.
    And by some reason I did't see the message about deflate64 bug in 920.05 thread. So I didn't know about that bug before.

    Hi, i'm new here. (sorry for my english).

    But… with Win7Pro x64, and 64bits version of 7zip, if try to change any options and confirm, a box with this error message appear: "Um evento não pôde chamar assinantes" ("An event was unable to call subscribers").

    If i open "7zFM.exe" with "Run as administrator", this don't occur.

    Note: When i installed the x64 version of 7zip, the shell context menu integration didn't work too. Only if "Run as administrator" is selected.

    Косметические замечания:
    1 Вывод в консольном окне с новым ключом 7z b -mm=*.
    - "Заголовок" таблицы не совпадает со столбцами таблицы.
    - Слово "Dict" в этом режиме не соответствует содержимому столбца.
    2 Оцепятка в справке \cmdline\switches\method.htm "If f=FilterID if specified, 7-zip uses specified filter for all files."

    1 and 2: some strings are from your Russian Windows. 7-zip can't change them as I suppose.
    2. I'll fix it. Thanks.

    On Windows XP,  when you open an archive with encrypted filenames the focus won't go to the Enter password dialog. That's a bit annoying since you have to manually switch to it. I first noted it on 7-Zip 9.20; it's still present on 9.20.06.

    inoz-2k:
    call
    7z l a.7z -slt > log.txt
    and show log.txt files for both archives.
    If log files are big, try to reduce original file set that you compress.

    Maybe there is difference if Word_Size (fb). Try to specify:
    fb=64
    in both cases.

    Try also command line version with -m switch without GUI.
    Also you don't need lp=0 (it's default values).

    adv-user - 2011-03-13

    Спасибо за объяснения.
    В командной строке размеры архивов совпадают. Выходит ошибка где-то в GUI.
    “Размер _с_лова:” во всех случаях был установлен на 128.
    Вот ->
         эти три варианта дают 1972821 байт:
              f=Delta:3 lp=0 pb=0 lc=8 fb=128
              f=Delta:3 lp=0 pb=0 lc=8
              b0:1 0=Delta:3 1=LZMA:lp0:pb0:lc8:fb128
         и только в этом случае 1972297
              b0:1 0=Delta:3 1=LZMA:lp0:pb0:lc8
    ! здесь явно fb=64, хотя « “Размер _с_лова:” во всех случаях был установлен на 128. »

    P.S. сам использую command line version гораздо чаще… и для надёжности указываю lp=0

    If there is command 0=***** in Params, 7-Zip ignores Method, Word-Size and Dictionary-Size fields.
