Dear Vitruss, you probably mean LabPlot 1.x, which has nothing to do with SciDAVis. We only share code for LabPlot 2.x, which is a complete rewrite and still in a very early state. The code of LabPlot 1.x is incompatible with LabPlot 2/SciDAVis. It may serve as a starting point but it still requires a lot of work to integrate. And, yes, the development requires good knowledge of C++. And in...

  • Followup: RE: Origin file support

Ok. But I saw working import of origin 7.5 projects in Labplot. And you are integrating with them. Is it possible, that importing from origin will remain after our integration? P.S. Which language knowledge is required in development? c++? I'll try to talk with friends.

  • Followup: RE: Origin file support

Dear Vitruss, it's not as easy as you make it sound to get Origin import working. Actually, it would be a hell lot of work to get a mature import function which enables a "smooth migration". The only chance to I see for Origin import in SciDAVis is that more programmers join the project. But unfortunately it seems to be a lot easier to get developers join a certain project that demands...

  • Origin file support

Dear SciDAVis team! I'm really happy, that found your software. We were using origin, but because of licensing problems it's not possible. I found that origin import support was dropped. Is it possible it will be available in future versions? I think that it's key feature. Many scientific people would be happy change origin to SciDAVis because of speed (origin is quite slow actually even on...

  • Followup: RE: SciDAVis crashes???

The binaries we currently distribute don't contain debugging information, so you'd have to build SciDAVis from source. There are precise instructions available and it's not a huge thing, but it's not entirely trivial either. I'll summarize the necessary steps, so you can decide whether you want to try. 1. You need a debugger. Assuming you want to have a nice GUI, get the free Qt SDK from...

  • Followup: RE: SciDAVis crashes???

Are there some "instructions" or the like for running a debug build of SciDAVis? I'd like to help out if able, but like you said, I can't devote a large portion of time. Do I need to download/install a special build of SciDAVis? Or is there a debug mode in the install that I have?.

  • Followup: RE: SciDAVis crashes???

Okay, if the crashes are really size related and happen also after simply adding a table, that gives me something to start with. I've registered this as bug #2897197 in order to track the progress. The next step will be running a debug build of SciDAVis in a debugger and triggering the bug there; if you're not familiar with that (and you don't have the time for learning it), there's little...
