I've now got something working, at least it can copy the source XML from the input GPX files whether they're raw, zipped or gzipped. However I need test GPX files to check that it really works - can you please send me one?
Either paste it here if it's short, or email it to the website address (listed at the bottom of each page).
Thanks!

OK, have to take the '3rd party' route. Maybe hoped for a by me not yet discovered option.

(btw: using prune for almost a year now, very much like it, but now starting to use it more 'extensively').

There are many ways to make such a screenshot, it depends what system you've got. Use whatever you use to make any kind of screenshot.
For example, if you use Gimp you can easily grab a screenshot of the Prune window and then crop it to the right size, or even just grab a screenshot of the area you want ("Select a region to grab").
You can do the same thing with most graphics...

I think that extra GPX tags should be preserved only for untouched points, if Prune edits a point, it is not longer the one from the GPX file, specially for all the satellite details!
Prune should mantain a link from each point to the original trkpt element and its XML children, untill a point is moved. On GPX export, Prune will dump the entire trkpt node only for untouched points.
If you...

Good idea but I can't use (lat, lon, ele, time) as a primary key - for one thing they're editable in Prune and for another there's no guarantee that that combination is unique in the data.
I've never played with arbitrary extensions to GPX tags, so thanks for the tip - although it looks like they make the retention of all data much more difficult (in a non-file-format-specific way). But not...

You can see the GPX definition of trackpoint here (it is called wptType indeed): [http://www.topografix.com/gpx/1/1/#type_wptType][1].
There are many fileds, but with some recent GPS loggers they are not sufficient, the GPX standard has the *extensions* tag for this.
I used it to save all data from loggers based on the MTK-chip, in the MTKBabel program I wrote. Here an example...

Great idea!
True, at the moment Prune won't keep all your tags, it only reads the name, position and time information. And furthermore it doesn't remember that the data came from a gpx file, it doesn't care whether it was loaded from kmz or text or direct from the gps.
So to keep track of all the gpx tags, Prune would need to not only read and remember all the tag values, but also remember...

Hello,
I just tried Prune: very nice program!
I'm searching for a similar tool, but when editing the tracks I wish to preserve some extra tags that appear in my GPX traces. For each point I have - for example - n. of satellites in view, position of satellites, etc.

The eXplorist will convert Tracks to Routes for you. The resulting file looks something like this:
$PMGNWPL,4355.105,N,07730.001,W,0000078,M,T01P01,,a*4C
$PMGNWPL,4354.337,N,07728.836,W,0000081,M,T01P02,,a*4E
$PMGNWPL,4354.164,N,07726.855,W,0000072,M,T01P03,,a*4C
During this conversion, the timestamp information is lost from the track, so I suppose it's most useful if you...
