Is there any way to use a URL instead of a file address for a media file? That would allow me to keep the photos dynamic, and use all the advanced features of my photo gallery.
I tried it and it does work to a degree. It will not show up in the randon image box, but it does place an image holder there that you may click and then see the image. I tried it using url path to both a full image and a thumbnail image, same results.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I'd like to integrate it with my "Gallery" too, as it'd prevent me having to duplicate some of the pictures. But there are various hurdles, such as image size and thumbnails ... although of course Gallery generates its own thumbnails too. Just that its directory structure & nomenclature is different to PGV.

The image size and thumbnail size didn't seem to be the issue. The problem I had was getting them to show in the "random' image box. As i said, it would place an image holder, sort of a box with lines, if you clicked it it would bring up the image pretty quickly.
If we could resolve the Random image issue, that would be the cats meow

It should support a URL. Try typing it in and see if it works. The thumbnails might not appear correctly.
You can also try to change your media directory to a url.

That still seems to be a thumbnail problem..... You're sure the thumbnails are reachable?
bearqst,
Could you post or send me a link to your site? Then I can take a look and see why the random image block isn't working.

Thanks John
For clarification, the random image block works if I use the phpGedView Add Media function.
http://www.johnstonclan.info
What we were trying to see if we could get working was a remote image and thumbnail, using a URL path.
I.E. making these url's show up instead of the Media Function ones in PGV
http://www.johnstons.cc/album_pic.php?pic_id=177
and
http://www.johnstons.cc/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=177
I can see them if I click on the Image Holder Block, but they won't show directly in the Random image block.
Do thumbnails show up anywhere on the site, like the pedigree chart, or is the problem just with the random image?

Yes,
click to two links I posted above, the 2nd one is the thumbnail and comes right up.
I did a test and simple added the two images (full and thunbnail) as a link in one of the front page News boxes, both were reachable.
