to support stutterless playback of 24p material on 50/60hz LCD devices (unable of 24p mode), there could be an (optional) automatic "speedup" function like the old "PAL speedup", e.g. playing the 24p material just a little faster with 25fps to make it look fluid on 50hz mode (which most LCDs support, in opposite to 24p).
this option should selfactivate whenever mateiral with 23.xx/24 fps is...

Just found the reason:
If the the value of "audio time shift" in "audio switcher" is negative, then the strange behavior described above will occur.

When MPC-HC (v1.3.1249.0) is used to playback certain DVDs by clicking File -> Open DVD, the frame rate is wrongly interpreted, which caused "jerking" in both video and audio. For example a 29.97fps is played around 12fps. However, the .VOB files in the DVD can be played smoothly by directly double-clicking them.
PS: MPC (v6.4.9.0) doesn't have this issue.

On some DVDs with many sub-menu structures, pressing the button for "DVD Menu Activate" on the PCs keyboard (default: "ENTER") failes to work, while there's no problem with selecting the menu item by pressing the mouse button. The best example of this is the THX optimizer, e. g. at the "Star Wars"-movie-collection-DVDs.
