Having not been used Windows for a number of years, I started a new job and the company I worked for needed a PDF creation program. I immediately suggested PDF Creator based on my prior experience with it: stable, quick, open source, etc. I was shocked when the anti-virus software on my desktop computer blocked the installation. I was even more shocked when I discovered the block was legitimate because of the behaviour of the toolbar included in the PDFCreator installation. It reflects poorly on the creators that they stooped to this underhanded method for monetizing the project. I have no problem with people making money off their creations. However, the creators have abused the trust of their users. That trust built up over the course of years. This is completely antithetical to the principles that drive Sourceforge. Sourceforge: do the right thing. Cease distributing this application until the creators remove the toolbar. (And yes, I realize that the installer provides the option for installing PDFCreator without the toolbar, but that's a bit like saying, "Sure there is a GPS tracking device installed in the car you just bought from us. Didn't you check in the wheel wells? You could have just removed it.") In the meantime, I'm off to use CutePDF or doPDF. Shame on PDFForge and shame on Sourceforge.

The toolbar that is included does have some uncomfortable ToS language, but choose the custom install and uncheck the box. It's that simple. Wikipedia: "Although SourceForge has marked the Ticket claiming 'PDFCreator has been reported as inappropriate' as Invalid (as noted above), The software still requires a Toolbar installation to be manually un-ticked in two separate locations. The fact that this software is 100% free from mal-ware, ad-ware or grey-ware is yet to be established."
