If you are having issues connecting and you know that your IRC server is indeed up, then you may be being firewalled via Verizon. I kept getting 'unable to connect' messages (with a couple of different clients, not just jmirc) and decided to set up socat on another box listening to a non-standard IRC port (9999) redirecting to the IRC server and sure enough, it worked fine.

trying to connect to the server using jmirc on my blackberry results with a "Exception: tunnel failed" error. I noticed there were other similar issues regarding this on the help forums--but no solutions are posted. Is there a solution?.

I try to connect to any irc server and I get "ERROR TUNNEL failed"
I have the BB javelin (9600 I think.)
I'm with Rogers Wireless Canada
I have a data plan.
I'm out of ideas.
