Jawk is an interpreter/compiler for the AWK programming language for Java. Unlike prior versions, Jawk provides an efficient execution environment for AWK with minimal enhancements to the language.

No language I know is as good as awk for quick once-off text manipulation. I use Jawk on a USB stick as a sort of universal maintenance tool for a variety of platforms I find myself having to support.
