100 x easier than on Windows. I wish the HP people stop doing things to let a simple printer installation a hard process. My printer has WiFi support, I own it for about 4 years. One time, ONE single time, I was able to print over WiFi. Is ridiculous all the procedure you have to make to configure it. Thanks for that simple installation. Although I had some error about a Qt4 GUI and DBus support, but if I got it right is for the HP-systray on desktop and I don´t mind at all about that. Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for making a simple printer installation so simple.

Nice to see that new versions is here. But there is a big problem for all new/currently Linux distributions you need a repository for python3-pyqt4-dbus and python3-pyqt4 but this is not possible. You can only get python3-pyqt5-dbus and python3-pyqt5 . It would be very nice if there was an update in which this old repository for python3-pyqt4 and python3-pyqt4-dbus would no longer be needed. So please make a update so that only python3-pyqt5 is needed. Thanks a lot

Not support Debian 12 , Only support Debian 11, but Debian 12 release on 2023.07 ，hope it have support。

Using Fedora, had to re-install printer after upgrade to 39. None of the hplip-3.23.12.run style commands worked, failing with this error: ( I guess it installed OK on 38, notes indicate that hplip-3.22.6.run worked - File "/home/jcamaion/printer/hplip-3.23.12/base/g.py", line 131, in read self.conf.readfp(fp) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ AttributeError: 'ConfigParser' object has no attribute 'readfp'. Did you mean: 'read'? Got the idea that "hplip" itself might be a linux command after installation perhaps? Did a > dnf search hplip .... sure enough found it. Ran > dnf install hplip BINGO!!!! Ran perfectly. All of a sudden the printer was available even to apps that were already open!! No version info necessary. SO WHY IS THERE NO INFORMATION TO FACILITATE INSTALLATION IN THIS MANNER?????? Curious though system cannot find a command hplip: $ which hplip /usr/bin/which: no hplip in (/home/jcamaion/.local/bin:/home/jcamaion/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin

File wouldn't run using mint 21.2. But this installed my old hp laserjet 1012: Open terminal Type: system-config-printer Press enter Worked!!!

Do not use it! I can be a malware! This software resets/changes (or maybe steals) the sudo (super) user password so you will not be able to login again! And when I launched the script uninstall.py I got a blinking terminal after reboot instead of a logon screen. OS: Manjaro 23 XFCE

Yet another great example of why you should stick to Windows or iOS. After 25+ years of Linux i start to think this habit of publishing software for the common-guy-customer is just blank dark-pattern'ish fashion. Imagine you're a worldwide leading IT-Company and outsource your driver to sourceforge.net LOL. I mean, there are drivers, just the whole HP Suite bullcrap denies the installation and therefore the usage of your printer with your Linux based OS. You dont even need this redundant Bullcrap. I need to root this crap and i need to install again some pythonX along other pythonX and here we go, f'ing with my nerves and f'ing with my system. This is why i switch to some non-free OS or just quit the hobby of hacking and fiddlin' around with open-source and free software. 1. chmod -x this 2. ./hpcrap.run 3. Enter your su (like everyone tells you everywhere every time all time not to do this) (just google how often sf got pwned) 4. Fiddle around with some python installing script, no big deal for JonDoe. 5. Remove your KDE-QT etc, because JonDoe knows nothing about it, he wants to use it. 6. Having one Linux-User less on this planet, because JonDoe is mad, he's using Win11 now. kkthxbye

The software downloaded, but it was not runnable until I noticed it was a script and chmoded it +x and executed it from a terminal session ./ It complained I was installing from root, so I obediently exited and backed out to my mortal shell and re-executed the script. It immediately recognized the subdirectory it had just created while being root, so I exited again and removed the root owned folder and began again. After that the install went fairly smooth. Eventually it asked me a vague question whether I wanted to reset, and I assumed they meant the printer, bad assumption. After my machine rebooted everything appeared to be ok. I entered an application and asked for a print. The print processed and queued then disappeared, but nothing ever came out on the printer and no errors were logged or alerted. That was fun.

All working well on Linux Mint 21.1 here. Script install file works well. EDIT: spoke too soon. Once the PC boots up, all is ok. I can access the HPLIP settings by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Settings" etc. BUT when I open Firefox, and then try to open the HPLIP Settings - nothing!! No window opens up.

FEDORA 38 NOT WORKING -- install dependencies available only for Fedora 37 and previous releases.

Doesn't work with Orange Pi Zero2 with Jammy (22.04) + latest updates. Always make error code 2. Can't find working solutions.

Not the most user-friendly, but it is Linux and it does work even on my organisation's print queue despite not officially supporting Linux. Entirely grateful to the dev team that Linux is not only supported but open source too. Have had a few problems trying to install in VMs though may be queue-related, and I suspect that's unsupported anyway. Linux Mint 21.1 works great as described. Strongly recommend that you read if your Linux distro's version is supported in the release notes **before** trying to install.

On UBUNTU 22.04 you should use hplip-3.22.xx because some qt libraries are not present. Moreover you should disable the firewall to download the plugin: sudo apt-get install apparmor-utils sudo aa-disable /usr/share/hplip/plugin.py hp-plugin

doesn't work out of box in Linux Mint 21 aka Vanessa :( with an HP Laserjet MFP M28w printer/scanner. Only the printer works but the plugins doesn't work for the scanner ... Maybe because printer is not declared in file: /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat ? Code of the scanner hasn't been rewritten since 2015 as we are in 2022, I wonder why :( !! it used to work under ubuntu 20.4 but Linux Mint 21 is based on Ubuntu Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)... Please do something :)

No support for Linux Mint 21 error: linuxmint-21 version is not supported, so all dependencies may not be installed. However trying to install using linuxmint-20.3 version packages.

Please, the HP-ink-tank-410/416 Wireless do not work with Linux Debian 11 (Bullseye). The printer is good but do not recognize the scanner. Same scanner problem with HP F4200 (Scanner always with a black page).

As a long time Linux user and after having run the family network windows free since year 2000, I can attest that HP developers did a great job with hplip. Simply downloading the package and running the installer does the job on Debian based OSes. The installer can detect the missing prereqs, distribution hplip SW already present (and still with UBUNTU 20.04 not up to date) and other requisites and fix them automatically. At the end of the process it can scan your devices and configure them on the spot. I used hplip quite a few time and it's got better and easier to manage. Only I step always on a problem with the retrieval of the sane scanner Plugins certificate from a mit.edu URL... skipping it and trusting the download gets you to the end of the configuration anyway. I've seen that it may get confused with Linux installed with local languages and having used it only on En_US based instances I cannot provide a fdbk on this... If and when I will test it on It_IT OS, I'll come back and provide some insights. Thanks Developers!

As a 12-year user of Linux (currently 64-bit Mint 20), I have found only 3 brands of printers that are not either an ungodly nightmare to install & configure, or they require that the Linux user sacrifice multiple capabilities. Of the 3 brands, HP hardware is leagues ahead of the other 2 brands. But the best part is HPLIP. This amazing software reduces hours of hair-tearing installation, configuration, and vendor support calls that other brands require to just 20-30 minutes of following amazingly accurate and understandable HP instructions. It took me 30-35 minutes to install an HP B&W LaserJet and an HP color wide-format all-in-one InkJet -- including wireless printing from multiple WiFi devices. Fabulous!

3 stars only because of paucity of troubleshooting solutions. Otherwise, the driver software is fine. Check out my pre-install steps at sourceforge.net/p/hplip/news/2020/10/hplip-3209-release-notes/ After that, I followed the same install instructions at the HP Developers link, above, and all went smoothly.

I live in Spain, and I think that is the problem. I downloaded the installation software but I cannot run the installation. It seems I must choose another alphabet code to run the installation, but I don't know which. I have saved the text of the installation software, but I am new in Linux and I don't know what to do to install it by trying, and mistake or success. Could someone help me? I wrote to HP, but they told me they cannot help me with installations problems. I hope sooner or later I will be able to give a good rate to this project. But until now, the only thing I can say is that I am not satisfied by the support. Problem solved on 10/11/2020 I wrote to Foro Linux, a web to help Linux users, in spanish. It was so simple as: 1. Turn on the HP 2. Turn on the Pc 3. Go to the Terminal and write: gnome-control-center printers 4. Press Enter In a few seconds a graphic interface oponed. The rest was very simple.
