when glurp 0.11.6 connects to a remote mpd with a large current playlist (say several thousand songs), the user interface freezes for an unacceptable amount of time (like 30 secs), giving the user no progress feedback.
I'd propose implementing a progress gauge (and I'll try to come up with a patch if it's welcome...)

i have the same problem as you do. i wonder how common our
plight is...
i don't always find the string shown in the main window to
be that foolproof, i often lost the first letter of the
artist / title / etc...
i'd like to see an implementation of strfsong (or one of its
derivatives) as one of the optional playlist columns. or
some other algorithm which draws info from both filenames...

the string created from each tracks filename and tag
info which is used in the main window's "track name"
field, should be an option as a "playlist column" in
preferences.
if ones tracks' tag info is incomplete, filename is
needed as a column, but this is long as it includes
path info, and thus hard to read, and leaves little
room for tag info for well-tagged tracks.
