  • I've been using Gambas to write wrappers for small scripts where a GUI would be nice. It's super easy, mostly reliable and what VB6 would have been had it still been supported and made a true OOP language. The thing I love the most about it is it just seems to make sense. Everytime I code something and say to myself, "well I think it should work this way".... It just does. So intuitive. After writing an application for our 70" touchscreen display that tracks our maintenance items, I was finally compelled to donate to this most excellent project. After all, we use the app. everyday. The guilt was too much. :-)
  • It will become an excellent IDE if it can be connected to the Roslyn code analyzer to edit VB.net codes and develop GTK# applications.
  • This is an outstanding BASIC IDE. The GUI builder is exceptional and allows easy porting of visual basic programs with only a small learning curve, Only drawback is it does not have the extensice support network of vb.net but it is faster, easier and more sable than vb.net. I wish there was speech recognition and epssch synthesis support too...
  • I find this really good is a lot quicker than visual basics and yeah its not the same but it is very similar. The only problem I find is trying to find codes, I know there's good examples but of course they don't cover everything. Like I was trying to find code to get stock quotes but I couldn't find anything through my Internet searches hopefully one day some one will do like gambas version of www.vbcode.com which may make it a lot easier to find codes
  • I love how simple it is to make and deploy small apps with Gambas. Highly recommended for anyone who's new to development!
  • Nice rapid development environment. Used to code a ton of vb when I used windows years ago and have been looking for a way to get back into coding for my desktop in Linux. Easy to get started and decent documentation and examples. So far everything I have looked for is there.
  • It is really good!
  • Fantastic! Wrote a lot of VBA-Code over 15 years, primary with MS Access. After short time I merged the data to Postgresql because of vendor lockin (and Access mdb databases where really bad/unstable). But the last thing to do was creating a frontend similar to what was able with Access before ... forms, business logic and such things. That was really a problem, I tried Python with PyQT/WX, Java/Groovy, PHP and Freepascal with Lazarus and I searched a replacement for a really long time. Now, that I programmed for about two days with Gambas, I see, I am at home now. Whoever programmed VBA/VB will understand Gambas with ease. The BASIC language is clear, the IDE is very cool, with a nice editor. All together it seems to be very stable, I will report when I wrote my first 40000 LOC. For me it is a perfect replacement for MS Access, it has all the things, which make Access a good frontend for Postgresql, and it lacks all the crazy features of Access, which I always circumvented by VBA-Code. If one wants a replacement for Visual Basic for Applications in Linux: Here it is! Thank you! Great work! ** Me again, one year later and with about 20000 lines of code written. Gambas is great! A lot of the code is productive in our firm, development speed increases because of more experience and a couple of tools and libs written. This object-oriented Basic is really the best solution for our need for a good RAD environment.
  • Lenguaje de programación fácil de aprender ideal para gente que se quiere iniciar en la programación, lo recomiendo 100%.
  • Simply superb. It offers the ease of use of VB or Delphi without being constrained to some of the poorer decisions of those environments. This is BASIC for real programmers.
  • This project is great!!
  • Good Compiler! Gambas is good when i have to make an application with Visual Basic. 100% recommended!
  • Excellent! I use it often to write quick, easy GUI apps for my Linux desktop. Keep up the good work!

  • The transition from vb. Net to Gambas is the natural state ... Gambas is indeed much easier to use and allow for better outcomes.
  • GAMBAS2 was a god-send. I used it to create an application for my Advanced Level Examination Project. I must say that it is absoluteley easy for any-one to use, and that (MicroSoft VisualBasic)©®TM users will feel right at home in it. It's great to see that it has been ported to Qt4. Thank You, and please keep up the good work!
  • Super Easy to learn and write apps.
  • Gambas is a very easy way to learn programming, or to create bigger applications. Just the best Basic in the world.
  • Excellent, gambas v3 is quite good, very capable and easy to use.
  • I like very much this (free !!!) programming tool; just a question: how can I put my free software on the Gambas page ? I followed the instructions, but the site requested for a username and password (that I don't own). Using my sourceforge account was unuseful. Is there an easy way to contribute to the project ? I have a fresh sms logger to add, please, help.
  • OMFG! I've been programming for going on 30 years now, and I _love_ GAMBAS. I just discovered it about a week ago, and have been having a wonderful time writing code. I used to do a lot of VB stuff in WinDoze, but I've been an Ubuntu Linux convert for the past several years, and the only thing I really missed was VB. THANK YOU!!!
