I had a similar problem, although with Media Center, because it is a 64-bit application and does not use the 32-bit codecs installed. I do not know if WMP10 is 64-bit, but if you you do indeed have a 64-bit OS, I recommend using the 64-bit K-Lite codec pack (google it). Otherwise, good luck!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, with Creative Wave Studio 7 installed. After FFDSHOW was installed, I find that the DirectX plugins have been replaced by FFDSHOW. When FFDHSOW is called for modifying the loaded wave file, it either remoces the entire file from memory, or Wave Studio complains that this Plugin may not be usable.
