The only open source TOS project I'm aware of fully written from the ground up. The support is top notch, they take every report serious, I know as I watch the mailing-list for years. The developers are some of the friendliest and most intelligent people you will ever have the honor to know in the Atari scene. Keep up the great work!

I give EmuTOS 5 stars out of 5 because - Open Source - "TOS is always right" - behaviour of UI will always be tuned to work as TOS - Targets to get as much compatibility with existing software as possible - Runs on non-Atari platforms like Amiga and Kiwi - Every bug report or question i ever put on the mailing list got discussed - Main bugs of existing TOS are fixed - active development

I think that idea is good - some open source TOS replacement. But I think that realization suffers from same problems over years. It is not enough compatible with original Atari SW, although game compatibility improved last years. It is slow. Probably worst part is disk access, filesystem. Much slower than 30 year old TOS versions. On top of it, they added something really not necessary - build in hard disk driver (while complaining on lack of ROM space) - even in 192K version. That's driver is just not what ? Again: not compatible. There is SW what relies on usual way how hard disk drivers install, work - well, I know what I talking, since I coded and I even sell such SW. I think that some disk utilities will not work too because that in EmuTOS . And what is worst in all it is communication with users, people giving feedback and incompatibility reports. No 'thanx for your report' - instead it you will hear all kind of talk about documentation, attitude etc. All in all, this project us used by very narrow circle of people. 3 votes only here. Now maybe with this 4. People just want to run old SW. All that talk about need of following specs, docs is useless, since DR docs, and other available ones are just poor, no enough details, and yes, there are mistakes too. PP And since I was sure that there will be some problems with disk utilities, I tested 2 of them. Knife: it has no Physical sector access, only for floppies, so not of interest. CHKDSK3 - some options work not - sector edit for instance, in absolute mode. Now, fur sure we need to blame Atari programmers, who did this very useful program - because they did not see in 1990 that some will use non-standard hard disk driver system about 2015. What a dirty programmers ! Talking about dirt: this nonstandard hard disk driver way can even cause some data loss, messing up whole disk in unlucky case - by writing something on wrong place. You have been warned. Don't use disk utilities with EmuTOS.

I don't think people realize quite how important this project could be. An Open Source OS that runs on Atari and Amiga? In these days of infinitely reconfigurable FPGA devices, this could be the perfect complement that kicks off a 16 bit resurgence. Great work people.
