User Reviews

  • Better than nothing if old hardware is not available, but not really good. DOSBox does not even play normal PC speaker sounds correctly. Why? This would be a basic thing to do. Try Leisure Suit Larry 1 on DOSBox and then on real hardware. The PC speaker emulation just sucks. DOSBox also hangs sometimes when playing these old Sierra games from the 1980's. Adlib OPL3 sounds suck too. It just sounds very very bad, that's why I'm using old hardware with real OPL3 chip sound cards. The text mode in DOSBox is not good either if playing old games or using old ASCII based programs. The current release of DOSBox is also 6 years old and nothing better seems to come. You can't expect people to compile development versions of DOSBox when the target group is normal people who may not have programming skills at all. Please make DOSBox commercial and make it to a virtual machine instead where you could install any DOS, Windows and other operating systems that work on x86 processors.
