This version of Li-f-e:Linux for Education is based on Ubuntu Mate 20.04, it is created to be used by teachers and students of schools and colleges, however anyone who wants tons of educational applications, complete and very user friendly desktop is welcome to give it a try.
Some reasons to use it:
- Free, for information on commercially supported server solution for educational institutions visit http://myscoolserver.com or for enterprise visit http://www.cyberorg.co.in
- Based on Ubuntu as pictured in textbooks.
- Has all applications required by textbooks. Such as java, c, c++ etc compilers and IDEs, all components of the LNMP stack and web-designing tools such as bluefish and VSCodium, Tuxmath, Tuxpaint, R programming, text editors such as VI, gedit, scite etc., fun tutorial in comic book format by Hackett and Bankwell, educational games, full office and multimedia suites and tons of useful softwares.
- Indian map is wrongly depicted in official Ubuntu, this version has fixed one.
- Comes with User friendly Mate Desktop Environment.
- Same OS can be used to create LTSP server to PXE(network) boot thin/fat clients in your labs. This gives complete control over and monitoring all clients in the network using Epoptes.
- Comes with pre-installed Nginx web server so you can use it to serve free offline educational contents such as from RACHEL and IIT's Spoken Tutorials. Just download the content and put it under /var/www/html/.
The hybrid iso image is suitable for burning on DVD or creating bootable USB stick. It can be installed on both UEFI and x86_64 legacy hardwares. Default live username is li-f-e, there is no password.
Check md5sum of the iso before installing.

Note: This distribution is continuation of openSUSE-Edu project's Li-f-e, with legacy of over a decade of providing excellent OS for education, it is now based on Ubuntu MATE as openSUSE no longer publishes installable live medias. It is also not related in any way to another distribution of the same name based on Ubuntu KDE.
