  • Comment: Almost-crash on Vista (!) on restart after quitting

The program politely closes after File->Quit with no crash at all. For sure the crash is due to the way the program was closed during the first instance, but nothing before the restart lets the user prefigure what will happen next. It took me a while to understand that this is likely the source of a few scattered "almost-crashes" that i was seeing sporadically on ChessX.

  • Comment: Crash on File->Close (or Quit) with OpeningTree updating

Should be prevented by blocking all operations on the database with active OT search (other non-readonly operations such as deleting/editing games can cause problems as well.

  • Comment: Almost-crash on Vista (!) on restart after quitting

Is the crash for sure caused by a restart? Isn't it just a problem of the first instance crashing? Either way, this should be fixed by preventing quite while opening files.

  • Comment: Add-move window should not cover the Board

Displaying move on the board does not seem a good idea: the dialog ask how the move should be added. As for not covering board, this may be hard to do if the board is large enough. Also, jumping confirmation dialog can be confusing for some people. If this is a real problem, probably enough information should be displayed in the confirmation dialog itself.

  • Comment: remove Tip of the day

    Dropped. Not very useful.

  • Comment: Clickable moves on the Analysis window

Good idea. Support for multiple variations is more important, though, so I would prefer to implement it first.

  • Comment: Splash screen

Dropped as long as ChessX starts quickly.
