Box2D is no longer developed on SF. However, I'm now using SF for downloads.

User Reviews

  • Tried to see if Box2D would fit on an Arduino platform. A compilation of the Hello World demo resulted in 89684 bytes of code which exceeded the flash memory size of 29696. The RAM usage was 1160 bytes or 45% of the 2560 bytes of available ram. The modul2 b2_stack_allocator was modified from 100K to 25K and to 8 stack entries in order to properly compile. I did not attempt to go any further when the code footprint so exceeded flash memory in the device to attempt to use it within an Arduino-based game.
  • It is a powerful 2d physics engine to be sure, but makes absolutely terrible use of OO principles. (I am aware that it is no longer developed sf, but this still applies to the most current versions out there)
  • 2D games rule and this is the definitive 2D physics engine (but Chipmunk is okay, too... ;)
  • I've had a lot of success with Box2D over the past year and a half on a top-down arcade-style shooter project. It's a bit overkill for my purposes, but very accurate and robust.
  • very weak Linux support, specially using Python language
