Appleseed is (augmented) social networking software, ie Friendster, only distributed. Sites running Appleseed will interoperate, and form the 'Appleseed Social Network.' Development is focused on privacy and security, as well as ease of configuration.

No thanks to the previous commenter I decided to install this and give it a shot. It does not suck. It is definitely unfinished and it appears development has stalled so don't waste your time. The software seems to be well written but just needs someone to give it a push. Looks promising.
