Unfortunately our SAN doesn't have the capability to "free" blocks so 
even if the OS is doing the work on the ext4 partition, this won't have 
any effect on the back-end storage.

At the moment we are testing with XFS and it looks good, I'll post a 
follow-up in a few weeks on this list.
