These are definately not meant to be part of the core specification, they are optional data types which could be registered and handled in a post-processor that knows about them. http://yaml.org/type/value.html and http://yaml.org/type/merge.html I have found these keys to be quite useful. The !!value data type provides a way to "upgrade" an application expecting a given node to have a single value to a mapping.
