David, There was a typo in mark's reply you need back quotes to have the content of the cache-file fed into the command line. xwax -s `/bin/cat cache-file` -t serato-2a -m 4 -a plughw:1,0 -a plughw:1,1 for your info you can read http://freeengineer.org/learnUNIXin10minutes.html#CommandSubst Regards, Fabrice.
