>Is there any cheap soundcard which works with good performance on two decks? Depends on what your definition of "cheap" is and what you are looking to do. My first Xwax setup had 2 SB live sound cards and 2 "cheap" phono pre-amps. It worked pretty good and cost me under USD$60 with tax and shipping. I got the pre-amps from ebay and the SB live cards from a surplus computer shop. The main disadvantage is that it's a desktop setup so it's not as portable and if power gets cut it in the middle of your set, you're down for at least 2 minutes (which is an eternity when you are in front of a crowd) or more while your system boots up (unless you have a UPS). Occasionally you will also find 1st gen scratch amps on ebay for around USD $100. In my opinion, these are a better buy since everything is included in one convenient package and you can use it on both a desktop and laptop. On paper, it seems though that the SB live cards would have better sound quality than the scratch amp. I personally cannot tell much of a difference. _____ From: xwa...@li... Is there any cheap soundcard which works with good performance on two decks? @Mark: I think it would be really useful if people could post their equipment and performance experiences to the mailing list and you could build up something like a database (on the xwax site) but I know this is some extra work for you ... Thanks! Glad to hear it's performing well. > Well, its great :D but there are some things > that would be nice to see in v.0.5 > - the possibility to start xwax with built in Software- > Preamps (maybe ./xwax -p ) I've been experimenting with software pre-amp recently, but the results are not so good. Maybe I will post some code soon. I presume you're using hardware preamps for now. I am using software preamps (Jack-Rack standard plugins: amplifier +35dB and 12dB low pass @2kHz) in the Jacked xwax version and its working fine. > - mouse support > - a playlist You mean the ability to build up a list of tracks to play in a partiuclar set? I guess this is why you would then need a mouse. The music library could certainly benefit from some work. > - if you could use the "track selection area" on your timecode > to scroll through the playlist This one is interesting. I much prefer to use the area for more playback. Has anybody used this feature on Serato, and what do you think? > Although it would be very nice,if there were a Forum where you can talk > to other xwax users without using the mailing list, because it is only > for developers and not for everyday-djs :-) The mailing list is for developers and users too. I appreciate that some people prefer web forums, although I don't have time to maintain one and I don't think the xwax community is large enough to split across a mailing list and forum. If you want an informal place to talk about xwax, then some people use #xwax on irc.freenode.net.
