I get this exact same problem when compiling xine in /usr/src/xine-0.4.01
but I do not get it when compiling from /home/paul/xine-0.4.01. One (I
don't know which) has line 180 in Makefile as "TAR = gtar" and the other
only as "TAR = tar" a few other files are differnt but I think they get
changed in configuration. Ho hum... I hope someone can make sense of this.
I am sure both directories were taken from the same tarball.
(complete_xine_0.4.01+.tar.gz)
