More good news for my upcoming dual Athlon machine. :) Yes, defenitely yes. Yust before easter, I got a DVD ROM and thus I had plenty of time to do some testing. My computer is a dual P2-233 with a MGA G200, Xv capable, and a Terratec Xlerate soundcard (Aureal chip), supported by OSS. First, I tried Xine 0.3.7. After several "discarded/skipped frames"-Messages, I only got some sound but no video - IMHO CPU not powerful enough. Using Xine 0.4.01 (included some well known dvd-plugin-replacements), everything worked - with (almost) no missing pictures. CPU usage is both about 80%, with peaks at 100%. Sometimes, but very rarely, one picture is missed. If somebody is interested in a CPU usage chart, I can mail a screenshot (~10K, png, first minutes of "Air Force One", Regio 2). However, everything is somewat "tight": typing, or even having the CPU-meter running results in missing pictures. Because of this, I did no Xshm tests. And yes: Xine 0.4.01 is somewhat unstable... Nevertheless, everything is much better than I exspected. Great. Try to find a software-dvd for a win-os which performs like this....
