I am running debian using 2.4.2 kerenel. Raw support is in the kerenel. However the raw command required to bind the device does not come with the binary distribution. I compiled it from the util-linux source. Don't forget to put the binding into one of the rc scripts otherwise you have to run it manually before you invoke xine. That was what went wrong when I first implemented /dev/rdvd. I thought I had it but it disappeared after reboot. BTW, 4.0.1 xine works fine on my classic Athlon, oc'ed to 745M, and the 16M classic TNT with onboard 686a sound running ALSA . It uses around 40 % of CPU. When I just leave it running it cruises through with no skip nor drop frames at full screen. It is smoother than running winDVD on the same machine. There are problems on pause and switching chapters. Some of them may have been fixed. However CVS is broken and I have not been able to recompile any snapshot for the last couple weeks. Cheers, P.C. |
