First of all, this is great stuff! I installed the 0.4.01 on a couple of systems and have been greatly (and happily!) surprised to see that now I can finally watch DVDs on Linux! (I have tried vlc and oms, but xine seems much further along the road, by far). As for any program in development, there are still a few glitches, of course. I noticed a couple of things: 1. Sometimes the video would freeze (but the sound track keeps playing); this doesn't seem to happen at random, since if I go back and rerun the sequence it freezes again on the same spot. I have noticed this especially (but not exclusively) when going into a new `chapter'. 2. I recently bought Ben-Hur, which uses both sides of the DVD. Side 1 played with (almost) no problems. Side 2, however, plays the very first chapter (Entreacte) and then skips over all the chapters until the end of the movie. This is my setup: 1. Home-grown PC with dual Pentium III @800MHz, 512Mb RAM, ATI Radeon 64Mb card, SoundBlaster Live! sound card (using the ALSA drivers). 2. VAIO F690 notebook (Pentium III @850MHz), 256Mb RAM, ATI Mobility (M3?) video card, Yamaha (YMF-744B) sound card (using ALSA). In both cases I am running the 2.4.2 kernel with the 2.2.2 glibc libraries on top of a Mandrake 7.2 distribution. I should note that the problems are reproducible in both systems. -- Francisco Figueirido fi...@fi... |
