Check your ulimits, I get a core dump frequently, but
gdb (5.0) doesn't seem able to understand it. But running
from within gdb does work.

As to mine running (but with too frequent hangs), one
difference from Bill's system is that LPPC 2000Q4
did a Redhat and bundled the infamous 2.95.3. The
other big difference is G3 -vs- G4, my G4 has a
dead power supply, but once it's fixed I can compare.

Make sure everything is compiled the same, I've 
seen some very weird behavior disappear after
a make clean...

I've added soft-sync based on Bill's previous patches
and will post patches once I've cleaned up configure
and the makefiles.
