24Bit FLACs -> random noise 
 
I try to play 24Bit FLAC with xine-lib (I'm using  
amaroK, but the same problem exists in Kaffeine and  
xine-ui), but instead of the music there's only  
distorted, *loud*, random noise.  
  
16Bit FLACs are fine.  
  
I can play my 24Bit FLACs with:  
  
- amaroK + aRts  
- amaroK + gstreamer  
- Audacious (GTK2 XMMS clone)  
- aRts (via artsplay)  
  
so my FLACs are perfectly fine. I'm not sure if the  
problem is within the xine-flac-decoder or the  
ALSA-output-sink. But 24Bit FLACs are broken in  
xine-lib, that's sure. ;-)

ok, I made a 30s sample from a public availabe MOD file 
(so the content mafia can't sue me ;-)):

but you can create as many samples as you need for 
yourself! You only need a recent 'libsndfile' package. 
Just create a WAV file (16Bit is ok) and then run:

> sndfile-convert -pcm24 <infile>.wav <outfile>.wav

Now you have a 24Bit WAV. You can FLAC' it now:

> flac <outfile>.wav

you can play this FLAC either with 'artsplay' or with:

> sndfile-play <outfile>.flac

you can even decompress the FLAC back to WAV:

> flac -d <outfile>.flac

and play it via aplay (you should use a plug: device if 
you don't have a 24/32Bit capable card), or sndfile-play.

both, the WAV and the FLAC are perfectly fine. But 
xine(-lib) plays random noise.

We cannot properly debug this problem without a sample file or
stream. Please post a URL of some location from where it can be
downloaded or streamed.
