I don't think so, friend. AFAIK xine did once used to use software 
scaling, but at some time the volume slider was changed to alter the 
mixer channel instead.

Hmm. In xine-ui 0.99.4 the volume slider seems to adjust the master 
volume level. I hadn't noticed that before. I thought it altered the PCM 
channel. Or is that xmms?
