Well, I didn't feel the need for supporting 2.59; if you think it's worth it, I'll see to work on it today or tomorrow. As far as I can see, the problems are with missing macros.. with m4_ifdef it should be possible to define some drop-in replacements for them, so to avoid changing the structure of the new configure.ac and at the same time support 2.59.
