hi all I just wanted to let you know that I've started a project on sourceforge with the goal of providing a useful/small/efficient.. java binding for xine. Basically, all I wanted to have was to be able to build a home theater system in java but failed to utilize the main video players (mplayer, vlc and xine) properly from java. After looking around, xine was the only one that at least provided a clean API and a simple example (muxine.c) which shows how to build a front-end. based on xine & muxine, I've used SWIG to wrap the complete xine api and started to write minimal c code to support X11 and Mac OS X window handling and such. by this, it should be possible to use the whole xine api without writing a complete wrapper/layer on top of it. this can be done for convenience, but I try to keep it simple. In the end, it should be possible to use xine for movies/music from java without knowing which OS and/or java vm is beneath (basic java idea). considering the multimedia API just discussed here, I'll first try to stay close to the originial xine api, but there's no reason no to add such an API on it. the basic work will be front-end code for different platforms. there's not much of documentation or web site, but the ReadMe.txt should provide a first running demo. If someone wants to join, just drop me a note.. :) cheers matthias ringwald |
