I am not sure about the issues with that sound card, but I think it's 
possible if you check the details on the Alsa list.  I think it comes up 
quite regularly

To do the crossovers consider something like Jack and use that to insert 
your own filtering via some system.  I use this and do even more stuff 
using Brutefir which is a general purpose filtering engine (I actually 
correct for echos and reflections in the room).
