[xine-user] not playing .dat movie file

dear sir,
i have xine-0.99 player in fedora core 1. its playing video songs, but 
its not playing .dat (movie)
file.
 please tell me why its not playing and if it will not play the same 
then what to do to play the same.
    i will be highly grateful to you.
