[xine-user] Xine fails to open

hi,

i'm new to linux and am running mandrake 9.1 with KDE 3.1 on a toshiba 
tecra 8000 laptop (think its PII 366MHz.) i've got a neomagic video card 
and a yamaha soundcard.

i've installed xine from the mandrake cd and every time i open it from 
the start menu thing it pops up on the screen for a second or two, then 
closes itself down.  i've tried reinstalling it, but nothing has got it 
working. can anybody please tell me how to fix this?
