That would be standard "Scope" aspect ratio. Having worked as a projectionist for quite some time I still miss the following: "Academy Flat" - 1.85:1 (HDTV is _not_ Academy Flat as the aspect is 1.77:1) "Cinerama" - 3.0:1, 2.77:1, 2.59:1 (made with 3 synchronous cameras, quite rare, e.g. "How The West Was Won", "Napoleon") The second "Cinemascope" - 2.55:1 (20,000 Leagues Under The Sea) "Todd-AO" - 2.20:1 (many movies of the 50s and 60s) "Ultra Panavision 70" - 2.76:1 (Ben Hur) I'm not sure if any of these do actually occur in video files but your file is at least one case of Cinemascope.
