Hi guys, I have been trying to get xine-ui-0.9.13 installed, after a seemingly flawless installation of xine-lib-0.9.13. I am a real newby to Linux, so I spent a week trying to figure out what stupid mistake I was making, but I still can't figure it out. I've read all the documentation I could find and the related postings on the mailing list, but to no avail. First off: I am running Red Hat 8.0 kernel 2.4.18-17 on a Sony Vaio F807K with Pentium III (Coppermine) 650Mhz, with an ATI Rage Mobility P/M videocard with ati.2 drivers courtesy of the Gatos project. When I run ./configure for xine-ui after a while it stops with the following message: checking for png_read_info in -lpng... no configure: error: *** libpng is needed (PNG library not found) - try to use --with-png-prefix option *** The first time I saw this I started looking for libpng on my system. Some tests and their results: [root@localhost xine-ui-0.9.13]# rpm -q libpng libpng-1.2.2-6 ldconfig -p | grep libpng libpng12.so.0 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0 libpng.so.3.1.2.2 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng.so.3.1.2.2 libpng.so.3 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 libpng.so.2 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libpng.so.2 As far as I interpret this this means libpng is on my system. So I tried ./configure --with-png-prefix=/usr/lib but same problem remains. So I turn to you for help. By the way this is some of the output from the env command: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/sbin PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/bin:/home/Jopz/bin:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/bin:/sbin:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/bin:/sbin I set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /sbin because that is where ldconfig resides on my system. Is this correct? Also when I look at my PATH I see the java path and /sbin repeated a few times, I think this is because I stuck those in a script in /etc/profile.d/ and used su to become root (so those scripts must have run twice I guess) but I don't think such repetition in the PATH variable should cause any problems? Thanks a lot for any help guys, I really want to see Xine running... Greetings, Jonas |
