But the configure script is having trouble finding the png.h header file. This is usually the difference between having, say, the "png" package and the "png-devel" package. If you're using some kind of managed package distribution (like RedHat with RPMs or Debian with DEBs), look for some kind of png-devel package. Otherwise, go to libpng.org and download and install the latest version of the library, which will install the devel material by default. If you take the latter route, be careful about having more than 1 version of png running around your system (since the new version will likely install in /usr/local/lib by default). This could cause you confusion down the road (e.g., a package claims you have ver.x and it needs ver.y, you maintain that you have ver.y when in fact you have both and the package is finding ver.x).
