This sounds like you have your X-server configured to use an 8-bit display mode (which only allows 256 colours on the screen at any one time). This is not recommended for quality video and certainly your ardware should be able to manage at least 16-bit colour. This list is not the place to discuss setting up X however so I suggest you consult the appropriate HOWTO (which I can't find at the moment, damn firewalls). Firstly check you have a 'DefaultDepth 16' somewhere in the Screens section and secondly make sure you are using the correct 'ati' driver (guess at name) as opposed to the god-slow 'svga'. -- Rich Wareham |
